Jade Birchnall began at Burton College studying photography and then went on to study photography at Manchester Metropolitan University. After photographing her nan (who suffered from senile dementia) she went to take images at a Catholic run care home. Once she got to know the nuns and nurses she began photographing them. She also took an extra series of images called 'photographs for the residents' as most of the images she'd already taken were quite sad and she didn't want the residents to see themselves like that so she photographed them whilst they were laughing and smiling. Jade joined forces with a friend from university to look into photographing strippers. They contacted a number of strip clubs around the area to arrange a photoshoot. After many refusals, a strip club called 'Baby Platinum Gentleman's Club' accepted the idea. At first a lot of the girls didn't want their photographs taken however once one girl had, they changed their minds. The majority of the girls didn't want their faces in the images however this didn't phase Jade as she wanted to capture the girl's bodily imperfections. Jade has been influenced by a number of photographers who have inspired her to work more of film and produce different types of images including making audio to fit a series of her photographs.
