Amelia Beavis-Harrison

Amelia Beavis-Harrison specialises in performance and text art. Performance art is a performance presented to an audience either live or via media, it can be planned or improvised. The performer can also be either present or absent and can happen anywhere from in a venue to on the streets. She also organises exhibitions and presents her work in a variety of ways - through text, videos, images, sound, etc - and uses the range of media to it's full extent.

(A screen grab of her website www.ameliabeavisharrison.com)

In 2010 she created an idea to have different people set her a challenge each month using facebook, these varied from apologising to everyone she'd upset to inviting local celebrities to her studio to explain what she was doing. She explained to us in her talk about how since she started her work in 2007 over the years she's slowly started to earn money solely from her art.

The above screen grab is an example of her completing a set challenge, she was set to test her mental or physical abilities by appearing on a television quiz show or game show. She didn't complete it within the month as she had to apply and attend interviews however she did complete the challenge in the end by appearing on The Weakest Link last year.

Above is a list of links on her websites that she's worked in collaboration before.

Erik Knudsen Review

We had a talk by Erik Knudsen about his work. He showed us 3 of his short films, one stood out to me in particular, Vainilla Chip, as I really like the angles he chose to film from. The film was very emotional and there was no dialogue, Knudsen only used music throughout this film. He spoke about courage, humility, simplicity and creativity and showed us a quote for each of the statements which were very inspirational. He also explained to us about how during his time in education although he failed a certain assignment he was still happy with it because it got the point across that he was trying to portray. At the end of his presentation he showed us some of his photography work which we viewed before hand on his website (www.onedayfilms.com). These were all of a similar theme with similar colours, etc.

Erik Knudsen

The above two images are taken from Erik Knudsen's series of images 'Cuba Waiting'. All the images from this series are very similar in a number of ways. They all have faded black corner and have similar colours (grey, black, white, brown, etc, dark shades).

The Invention of Photography

This is the first ever permanent photo that was produced in 1826 by French inventor Joseph Nicéphore Niépce.

This is the first ever colour photograph made by the three-colour method suggested by James Clerk Maxwell in 1855 and taken in 1861 by Thomas Sutton.

Food task

For this task we had to photograph food. I photographed a subway then I edited it by changing the levels and making it more vibrant and added a faded black border to make it look more defined.

Famous photo reconstruction

The first image is the original image and the second is my reconstruction of the image. I changed my image into black and white, adjusted the levels and added grain to the image to make it look old and as similar to the original image as possible.

Slipstream

Slipstream is going to be used to create a major light and sound show at Snibston in November. The program was created by Andy McKeown and Peter Walker. The are gathering large amounts of images, sounds and stories from existing books, newspapers and photographs as well as using new images taken especially for the event. To use the program you insert an image and then select different parts of the image which are put together to create a slideshow of the different fragments of images, this will then be projected against a building or a projector screen or something similar. The above screen grabs are two of the collections of images that will be used in the final project.

These are three items of John Goto's work. There are various similarities between my work and his work including the way my image has a poster effect to make it look slightly cartoon-ish and John Goto has done this too however in a more noticeable manner. He has done the same as me as he has taken a photo of a landscape and the cut and paste objects - in this case people - onto his landscapes. These images are taken from a piece of work called 'Capital Arcade'. This is where I got the inspiration for my image from.
